Guest Lecturer
MSE 241 · Electron Microscopy Laboratory
Developed and delivered a 90-minute lecture on cryogenic electron microscopy characterization for battery materials, with class discussion and collaborative problem solving.
Outreach & mentorship
Teaching and mentoring connect scientific concepts to real evidence, with hands-on practice in experimental design, data interpretation, and communication.
In the classroom
MSE 241 · Electron Microscopy Laboratory
Developed and delivered a 90-minute lecture on cryogenic electron microscopy characterization for battery materials, with class discussion and collaborative problem solving.
NANO 164 · Advanced Micro and Nano Materials for Energy Storage
Designed and led weekly discussions and final review lectures; developed quiz and examination questions, graded assignments, held office hours, and provided individual feedback.
In the laboratory
Co-developed a research proposal and study plan with undergraduate researcher Kanokwan Tungkitkancharoen on clay–water interactions using in situ liquid-cell TEM. Provided microscopy training, weekly data-interpretation discussions, and guidance on the final presentation and manuscript.
Mentors two graduate researchers studying battery and catalytic materials with in situ liquid-cell TEM and electrochemistry. Supports microscope training, in situ data acquisition, troubleshooting, and data-quality criteria.
Mentored two undergraduate and two graduate researchers in thin-film battery fabrication and solid–solid interface characterization. Taught vacuum deposition and cryogenic focused-ion-beam methods, experimental troubleshooting, and presentation of results.
Shared scientific tools
Rigaku SmartLab XRD, Center for Memory and Recording Research
Managed operation, scheduling, maintenance, and user access. Trained more than 40 users in instrument operation, sample preparation, measurement design, laboratory safety, and data-quality assessment. Maintained standard operating procedures, supported troubleshooting and diffraction-data interpretation, and coordinated routine maintenance with Rigaku technicians.
Mentoring approach
Research training begins with a bounded question, visible milestones, and a shared plan for safe, reproducible work. As researchers gain experience, responsibility shifts toward choosing controls, explaining uncertainty, and deciding which experiment will be most informative.
Images and real datasets help show how evidence supports a claim, where artifacts can mislead, and what a stronger test would look like.
